(1997-1998) The found objects incorporated into these sculptures make them, in one sense, meditations on the passage of time and memory. The individual antique elements have "lived a life" before I found them. However, through placement and juxtaposition of the components, I have created new associations, "conversations" among the elements, tension and new energy. In this recent body of work, I found myself drawn toward using multiple related elements in each sculpture - an entire collection of wooden hat molds, organ pipes of graduated sizes, 72 wooden shoe lasts, 140 leather embossers. Knowing these pieces would be shown in very open spaces has allowed me to work on a scale larger than ever before.
