About this Series . . .

(2000-2002) Since 1993, I have continued to use found objects to create my sculpture. In this ongoing body of work, I examine the pressures, choices and challenges facing women as "stewards of life." While some works may have a certain humor about them, they also carry an underlying weight because of their nearness to reality. If a person can be altered or created in a lab, what then does identity mean? How much is our sense of self determined by others, whether in a lab or in somebody else's head? Does one need a womb to create a person? More importantly, how do we as women maintain a respect for ourselves and a respect for "soul".
